New Work: The Science & Art of Crowdcounting
Up through January 7th at the National Press Club. The Science & Art of Crowdcounting is an exhibit on the work of Digital Design & Imaging Service Inc. (DDIS) a company based just outside of DC. They have been responsible for some of the most famous recent examples of crowdcounts. DDIS was responsible for the official count numbers for the dueling Honor and Sanity/Fear Rally’s held last summer. It is these two events that are examined in detail in the exhibit along with a brief introduction to the techniques of crowdcounting itself.
I worked as an exhibit design consultant with Curt Westergard, president of DDIS to develop, write, design, and produce the exhibit. I also hung the show in the National Press Club lobby. DDIS uses Aerostat balloon equipped with specialized camera equipment to take aerial photos of large crowds. The images are quite beautiful and provide an ideal viewpoint to do a crowd count.
So if you are downtown near the National Press Club building pop on up to the 13th floor and view the exhibit.
If you can’t make it down there at least take a look at these I took of the exhibit right after set up.
